Acceptable use policy
What you can and cannot use Backbone for. Particularly important for SMS — we enforce real consent. Final language pending counsel review.
Draft — counsel review required before launch.
This page exists to satisfy app-store, payment-processor, and registration requirements during development. The language below has not been reviewed by an attorney and must not be relied on as final.
Purpose
Backbone CRM is a legitimate field-service business platform. This policy describes use we won't tolerate. The final language is pending review by counsel and is not yet binding; this page exists only to satisfy registration and review requirements during development.
Prohibited use
You may not use Backbone for:
- Communications you do not have proper consent to send (especially SMS — see below).
- Spam, mass unsolicited outreach, or content unrelated to a real customer relationship you have established.
- Anything illegal under applicable U.S. federal or state law, or the laws of any other jurisdiction in which you operate.
- Harassing or threatening communications.
- Promoting or facilitating fraud, scams, or financial misrepresentation.
- Impersonating another business or person.
- Reselling Backbone capacity to third parties without a written reseller agreement.
- Circumventing rate limits, security controls, or platform fees.
- Storing prohibited content (illegal materials, malware, or content that violates third-party intellectual property).
SMS-specific rules
Because SMS abuse harms every other Backbone customer through carrier filtering, we enforce SMS rules strictly:
- Consent first. You must obtain prior express consent before sending SMS to a recipient. Express written consent is required for any promotional content (rare for our use case — but if you do send any, the rules are stricter).
- No purchased lists. Phone numbers must come from your own customer relationships, not from third-party data brokers.
- Honor opt-outs immediately. Backbone enforces STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, and QUIT keywords automatically; manual sending to opted-out numbers is a violation.
- No prohibited content. SHAFT (Sex, Hate, Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco) and other carrier-prohibited content categories.
Violation of SMS rules may result in immediate account suspension to protect the messaging program for all customers.
Enforcement
We may suspend accounts for violations of this policy with or without prior notice. Severe or repeat violations may result in termination and forfeiture of unused subscription fees.
